The Lord commissioned Joshua after Moses died.
“Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordon, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:2-9 ESV)
The Lord was with always with Joshua and He is always with us.
“And they said to Joshua, ‘Truly the Lord has given all the land into our hands. And also, all the inhabitants of the land melt away because of us.” (Joshua 2:24 ESV)
The scenario with Rahab hiding the spies seemed divinely ordained, and they knew it. God took care of them too.
“And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But He (Jesus) was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they (the disciples) woke Him and said, ‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’ And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ and the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, ‘Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?’ And they were filled with great fear and said this to one another, ‘Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” (Mark 4:37-41 ESV)
Jesus took care of the disciples too. They were caught up in fear, as we all tend to do. But He, the creator of the universe, can command His creation to do as He wills. Even the wind and the sea obey Him. I find that comforting!
“The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in Him.” (Psalm 37:39-40 ESV)
Hold onto God’s promises today and remember that He holds everything and He holds you too!
