Revelation 9-11

Scripture

“Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “ The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”  Rev 11:15 NKJV

Observation

The book of revelation is full of some many symbols and is difficult to understand.  The bottom line is that Jesus Christ has won and He shall reign forever and ever.

Application

God’s story is amazing how all the pieces have come together.  The final book of the bible crescendos with the praise and worship of Jesus.  Some of the parts of Revelation give us a glimpse of what heaven will be like.  My desire is to live more and more in the reality that Jesus is reining forever and ever.  I want my life to reflect that truth and have it guide my day to day living.

Prayer

Lord you will and are reining forever and ever.  I pray that I share that truth with others and live my life with that as my center.  You are worthy of all praise and worship.  Amen

Hebrews 1 – 4

Scripture

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”  Heb 4:12 NKJV

 Observation

  • The bible is living and powerful.
  • The bible cuts into our lives like a sword.
  • The bible reveals our thoughts.
  • The bible reveals our motivations.

 Application

Gods word is extraordinary.  When I think about the attributes that Paul mentions in this verse, it causes me to be amazed.  The bible is difficult to read at times because it reveals our hearts.  God has a high calling for his followers and his word is convicting.  My application is too continually allow God to form me by being in his word.

Prayer

Lord thank you for your word.  Its amazing that your word continues to speak because its alive with power.  Help me to open my life daily to your word. Amen

2 Corinthians 1-4

Scripture

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ.   And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.  Not it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ.  He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come”  2 Corinthians 1:20 – 22. NIV

Observation

All Gods promises are yes and fufilled in Christ.  When we accept Christ we are saying Amen to those promises, in other words we agree with God.  After we accept Christ, it is God who makes us stand firm, places an annointing on us, set a seal of ownership on us and gives us his Spirit as a gurantee.

 Application

These verses are so rich and powerful.  In Christ we have so much, its hard to imagine or fathom.  God is so good, He has provided everything necessary for us to live in this life and the next.  I love the part in these verses about God setting his seal on Christ followers.  We are his and nothing can separate us from his love.

Prayer

Lord God thank you for sealing and annoiting us with your Spirit.  Thank you for your Sons ultimate and complete gift.  I can’t add anything to what he has done, its complete.

Amen

Acts 14-16

Scripture

“But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.  Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.”  Acts 16:25-26

 Observation

Paul and Silas had every right to be grumpy and in a bad mood if they focused on their immediate circumstances.  But they didn’t, they did not question God’s direction or why they were in jail instead they chose to praise God in the midst of their circumstances.  They chose to trust God and believe He had a purpose for them in that jail.  There was a purpose for them to be there, to save the jailer and to minister to the other prisoners.  Their worship paid off,  chains were loosed and doors were opened.

 Application

I’m quick to be critical and complaining sometimes about my circumstances.  Paul and Silas kept their focus and did not lose sight of what was important.  My application from these verses is to pray and worship every day regardless of how I feel. I’ve missed some devotional time this week and I realize in that I’ve missed a blessing for that day.  I’ve missed an opportunity to spend time worshiping God and receiving a blessing.

 Prayer

Lord God forgive me for running out of the house this week and skipping out on our time together.  I know that I’ve missed those blessings that you wanted to give me.  Lord help me not be so impatient to run out the door.  Amen

Luke 23-24

Scripture

“Then as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?  He is not here, but is risen!  Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’”  And they remembered His words.”  Luke 24:6-8

Observation

This must have been quite an experience for these women.  It was very early in the morning, may have even still been dark.  The grieving women went in to the tomb to say there last goodbyes and found nothing, no body.  Now distressed at the thought someone stole their masters body, they stumble out of the tomb confused and upset.  The next thing they see in the dim light are the mysterious men in shining garments proclaiming to the scared group that Jesus has risen.  That must have been quite a shock, but they than recall Jesus’s words and immediately they are filled with joy!

Application

I can only stand in awe when I read these verses.  Imagining that scene and picturing myself standing there.  I can only imagine the day when I can see Him, how awesome that will be.  When I thought about these verses I wondered how come no one over the last few days thought that Jesus might not be in the tomb?  The Pharisees even remembered Jesus’ words and asked for guards to be posted at the tomb.  Than I think, this world can be confusing and emotions take over and I forget Gods promises.  These verses are a great place to rest when feeling confused and to remember what He has done.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

Thank you for salvation, thank you for paying the ultimate price.  Words are not enough to express my gratitude for saving me.  Move me to open my mouth and be bold and to share your gospel with a hurting world.

Amen

Jon
