The Creator of the universe designed the priestly garments which symbolized the inner relationship with God. Twelve jewels engraved with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel hung on an ephod over the priests heart.
The Messiah stood before the priests. Jesus knew their hearts, but their preconceived notions obscured the truth about who he really was. Jesus scolded them about not judging by mere appearances.
Fashion tells the outside world who we think we are. Proverbs say get wisdom, and understanding in order to know who we really are. It tells us to guard these things in our hearts. It never mentions fashionable clothing or jewelry. These are merely outward symbols of an inner reality.
Revelation says at the return of Christ we will receive a new name carved on a stone. Jeremiah tells of the new covenant where his law is written on our hearts. Our names are already engraved on Christ’s nail engraved hands. Paul says we are clothed with Christ.
Lord I am sorry where I have taken for granted my beautiful new identity in Christ. I pray for a heart that shines Christ on the inside and the outside.
