Psalms 119:41-96

I have no idea how I escaped the “legal” aspect that I hear others speak of when it comes to the practice of prayer or bible reading etc. There has been a profound desire to cherish God’s Word. Probably because for me, it was a choice of life or death and I chose life.

I cherish your commandments—oh, how I love them!—
relishing every fragment of your counsel. – Psalm 119:48 MSG

I know that I am really just reflecting the love that God has for me and this joy, this cherishing and relishing, is like an act of honour. It is my gift of time and energy spent with God and His word. Maybe that is the definition of love – feeling, giving honouring, and desiring to spend time and energy with the one I love.

The haters hate me without mercy,
but I don’t budge from your revelation.
I watch for your ancient landmark words,
and know I’m on the right track. – Psalm 119:50-51 MSG

It is sometimes hard to think of what King David went through because of his faith. Here he is, a man of honour, wisdom and faithful to his people and his country, and yet he is jeered for that faith.

When I think of those who have held me in their laughter, I cannot help but know that their applause and honour they receive in this world might be great for a while – but they will never know the comfort I have for knowing that I am on the right track with my walk with God.

I get up in the middle of the night to thank you;
your decisions are so right, so true—I can’t wait till morning! – Psalm 119:62 MSG

When I set my heart on thanking God I have great dreams while I sleep. I come into my world in the morning with a slew of things to do that will honour God.

I’m a friend and companion of all who fear you,
of those committed to living by your rules. – Psalm 119:63 MSG

Slowly I am still learning that I need to choose wisely with whom I will hang out with. I need to be with those who want to honour God and His word.

The godless spread lies about me,
but I focus my attention on what you are saying. – Psalm 119:69 MSG

Instead of discouraging me and putting me in depression, I have this incredible appetite to give myself, all of myself, to God in obedience to Him, in hopes of honouring Him with my whole heart.

I see the limits to everything human,
but the horizons can’t contain your commands! – Psalm 119:96 MSG

When I look at the world and all the things it has to offer, including the things that matter – wealth, power, honour etc. – there is no life there.

Father, thank you for giving me the power, that is found in You, to live this walk You have called me to live – it is life!
