Leviticus 6; Psalms 5,6; Proverbs 21; Colossians 4

In my observance of Good Friday the verse that came to my mind was “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do”. It made me think about how God forgives me not just for the sins I know about, but even for those I am not even aware of doing. Then I started working on my post for today, and noticed that throughout Leviticus there are various references to sins that people do and they are guilty “even if they are not aware of it”.

 

 

In today’s reading we learn more about a very special sacrifice called a “sin offering”:

“The LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron and his sons: ‘These are the regulations for the sin offering: The sin offering is to be slaughtered before the LORD in the place the burnt offering is slaughtered; it is most holy. The priest who offers it shall eat it; it is to be eaten in a holy place, in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting. Whatever touches any of the flesh will become holy…” Leviticus 6: 24-27a

Christ was the final sin offering, slaughtered before the Father, paying our sin debt in full. Christ is in us, and we too become holy. Thank you, Jesus, for forgiving me not only for the sins I know, but even the sins of which I’m not even aware. So what do I do now???

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God […] Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Col 3:1-14, condensed

Pretty simple. God forgives us, and we are to forgive others. The rest should come forth out of that true forgiveness and love.

My prayer for today is from Psalm 6:4

“Turn, O LORD, and deliver me;
save me because of your unfailing love.”

And then… show me how to love as you have loved me.
